Educating Future-Ready Designers: How Do We Teach the Future?
Con Marita Canina, Tatiana Efremenko e Roy Bendor
How do we prepare a generation of designers for futures that are uncertain, complex and shared with other species? Educating Future-ready Designers is the focus of this event. The open-access book presents Design Futures as an educational approach preparing students not only to solve today's problems, but to engage with and imagine possible futures. Drawing on teaching and research at Politecnico di Milano, the authors created and implemented this approach, Ministry for the Future, a format combining Design Thinking, Futures Thinking, experiential learning, immersive storytelling and Artificial Intelligence. The presentation opens a conversation with Roy Bendor, Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano and Associate Professor at TU Delft, on how design education can cultivate imagination, critical awareness and agency amid uncertainty, technological transformation and societal change, and become a space for imagining and shaping the future. The talk is open to students, educators, practitioners and anyone curious about how we learn to imagine the future, and why this has become an essential skill today. The event will be held in English.
